Are You Ready for an Active Shooter Response?

Another tragic school shooting, this time in Georgia. Itās a clear reminder that preparation is everything in moments like these. If youāre the first officer on scene, you need to act with confidence and precision.
Here are a few key tips to keep in mind when responding to an active shooter situation:
Establish Command and Control: Take charge quicklyācommunicate clearly and ensure everyone knows their roles. Be the leader if youāre first on the scene.
Neutralize the Threat: The priority is to stop the shooter. Time is criticalādonāt wait for backup if lives are at risk.
Situational Awareness: Stay alert to changes in the environment. Active shooters are unpredictable, so keep scanning for threats.
Communication: Keep dispatch and responding units updated. Quick, clear updates can make all the difference.
Victim Care: Once the threat is neutralized, shift focus to helping the wounded. Coordinate with EMS and provide life-saving measures if needed.
Take a few minutes to review your active shooter response protocols and make sure you're ready for the unexpected. It could save lives.
